Letter of 1/5/2022 Breathing techniques and Info for New Students

1/5/22

Welcome Back to Yoga!  I know a few of you are back in class after being away for a bit and I wanted to update you on what we have been doing.  We have been practicing this breathing technique in class for over a year. I will try to instruct it, but it might be easier to learn if you watch this video first.https://youtu.be/JERF7i7IXjk  I think I mention in the video that I learned this nasal clearing technique from Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor.  I would highly recommend the book.  It is interesting and an easy read.

If you are new to Zoom, let me know if you have questions.  I am glad to help you get the “set-up” right.  If you have any issues connecting to the Zoom class, try re-starting your computer or moving closer to your wi-fi source.  Although it does take a bit of getting used to.  Once you figure out the “mechanics’ of laptop or iPad placement, you can just enjoy the class and your yoga experience.  I think if you turn your phone off and commit to your yoga time, it will feel more like class.

For the actual yoga part, you will need a strap, a block (or something like one) and a Half Foam roller (sometimes called a half dome foam roller) to stretch the foot and calf.  A rolled up towel or blanket works as a decent substitute.  Other things like a chair, a blanket, a small section of wall can also be nice.  If you are in the Ongoing classes on Monday 5:30 or Tuesday 10am, we will use the Yoga Tune-Up balls most weeks.

See you in class,

Julie
